Kaiapoi, Christchurch (NZMCA)

Exploring Christchurch 🌿

7/11/2025 – A great effort – walking around Orana Park

We’ve settled into Kaiapoi, just north of Christchurch, and plan to spend some time here soaking up both the cityscape and the surrounding landscape. There’s so much to see and do in this part of Canterbury, and we’re looking forward to discovering what makes it special.

Today, we spent the day at Orana Wildlife Park. It wasn’t quite what we remembered—no more driving through the lions’ enclosure—but it was still a fantastic experience. We walked at least eight kilometres exploring the park, and we’re definitely feeling it this morning!

After all that walking, tomorrow might just call for a slower pace and a bit of relaxation.

8/11/2025 – A Day Around Lyttelton and Governors Bay

We started the day with a great, soothing soak in the spa pool at the Taiora QEII Aquatic Centre. It was such a relaxing way to begin the morning — HOT water, quiet atmosphere, and the perfect way to ease any lingering tiredness from yesterday’s adventures.

Feeling refreshed, we went for a drive through the Lyttelton Tunnel and spent some time exploring around the Port Hills. The views from up there were amazing, with sweeping panoramas over Lyttelton Harbour and the surrounding hills.

From there, we carried on to Governors Bay, a peaceful little spot with calm waters and a laid-back vibe. We took our time wandering around and enjoying the scenery — a perfect, casual way to round off the day.

Another great day exploring Christchurch and its beautiful surroundings.

9/11/2025 A Cool Day Out in Christchurch ❄️💦

Today was all about cool experiences — literally and figuratively! We started the day at the International Antarctic Centre, one of Christchurch’s most popular attractions and a must-see for anyone visiting the city.

Inside, we got up close with the little blue penguins, met a pack of friendly huskies, and even braved the icy chill of the Antarctic storm room — a very real taste of what life down south might be like! The highlight was definitely the Hägglund ride, bouncing and rolling over rough terrain in a genuine Antarctic vehicle. It was great fun and gave us a feel for how rugged the conditions can be.

11/11/2025 – we went for a drive out to Akaroa. Lovely drive

Roaming

We sold the house and now we're on the move, living full-time in our caravan. Deb and I have embraced a more mobile lifestyle, travelling around New Zealand and exploring new places as we go. With no fixed address, every day brings a new view and a fresh experience — from quiet coastal spots to scenic rural hideaways. It’s a big change from the old routine, but we’re loving the freedom, simplicity, and adventure that come with life on the road.
